Modoc County Public Health Department has partnered with Modoc Harvest to establish a community garden in Alturas. It’s been in the planning stages for more than a year, but things are starting to happen. St. Michael’s Episcopal Church has welcomed the garden onto their property on West 1st. and South Rine. Noon-Time Rotary and the McConnell Foundation has donated funding for fencing, plumbing, and other costs. Public Health received a SNAP-ED grant for the boxes, soil, tools, and a greenhouse. A huge pile of soil and compost has been delivered and the boxes are being constructed. Anne Mileck, a Master Gardener, is working with a team from Public Health, Modoc Harvest, St. Michael’s, and the Noon-Time Rotary to design and build this garden for the community. The Garden will be in operation for the 2019 growing season. Check back for updates on the garden’s progress.
